Revamped Family Memo Station Part 1 - DIY Dry Erase Board

Last year I shared our family memo station where we keep all of our incoming and outgoing mail, keys, and a dry erase calendar. It's located right by our back door so it's easily accessible.

Yesterday I decided to whip up a new dry erase calendar DIY style.  I used a frame that I already had and a piece of wrapping paper from a roll I got in the Target dollar aisle.

I googled free calendar printable and found this one which I printed out on card stock. I then cut a smaller strip of card stock to use for writing the month. I taped it all together, popped it in the frame, and ba-bam! (can you tell we watch way to much Good Luck Charlie around here?)

It's so much more stylish and chic then our last one. Here is a view from a little further away. Notice I re-painted the walls too. :)

I decided to paint the walls a more neutral color this time around. I loved the soft blue, but since we turned this space into the kid's playroom there was just a little too much color overload! This room flows with the rest of our house much nicer now.  I will share more pics soon.

Here is a before shot of our family memo station,

and here it is as of now.

Much better!

We are planning to add another coat rack (like we did here) to the lower portion of this wall so our little ones can reach it to hang up their own coats, hats, and book bags. Right now everything ends up in a big pile on the floor when we come home, so hopefully that will help. That will be Part 2.

Have a BLESSED day!

A Tractor Birthday Party for my sweet boy!

My little man turned 2 this past weekend and to celebrate we held a little party at our house. He is so shy so we kept things small with only a few close family members. I didn't want him to be totally overwhelmed!

The theme of this party was of course tractors! He loves them so very much. My husband and his family farm, so he takes our little guy with him for a ride every time he can. I love how those tractors make his face light up. Precious!

I temporarily removed the picture I had in the frame and replaced it with a computer printout that I made. I then decorated the frame matting with burlap ribbon and rick rack.

Using painter's tape allowed me to easily remove it all without damaging the matting.

I found that cute burlap ribbon at Walmart. I also picked up some that has a chevron print. I am going to attempt to make a giant bow with it for our Christmas tree this year.

As for the banner I just cut up a bunch of fabric and tied it to a piece of rope.

I secured it to the wall with those command hooks that are easily removable without damaging your walls.  They really do work well!

I attached several of my favorite photos of our little guy with all his various tractors to the banner.  I used clothes pins decorated in rick rack.

For the food I kept things simple. Ham rolls, mini pimento cheese sandwiches, chips, veggies and dip, and a cracker, cheese, and grape tray. Oh and the cake of course!

I made the cake myself. I am definitely not a baker, but it turned out okay! My attempt at creating an edible tractor failed majorly, so I popped a toy tractor on top of the cake and called it a day!

The kids and I made cookies the night before. I found a cute tractor cookie cutter on Ebay.

Boy did they have fun creating their masterpieces!

And here he is now, the birthday boy! All dressed up in his personalized tractor shirt.

Cute as can be!

He got the ultimate gift! A tractor he can ride! He was one happy camper!

Thanks for visiting!

Have a BLESSED day!

Bless this Mess!

This week (probably more like all of last month too) has been one of those weeks where I feel like no matter what I do I can't seem to get caught up. Does anyone else ever feel that way?

My energy and motivation is MIA, perhaps due to little sleep. My little guy has been sick lately, so everything else has been put on the back burner. These last few days have been full of late late nights and lots of cuddling.

And I have to say I have enjoyed it so much. He is definitely a mama's boy when he is sick, but I hate that he has felt so bad. There is nothing worse than seeing your little ones sick and not be able to take it away right then and there.

Lately any kind of house work around here has been neglected and that's OKAY!  It's fun to share lovely home photos, but I think it's important for people to know that real life happens and things get messy! Even for those of us who are OCD about housekeeping. Why not share that as well? Perhaps others can relate?

Right this second our kitchen is a cluttered up mess. The counter tops are filled with clutter and the sink is full of dishes. Oh and the bottom floating shelf is falling down. Not sure what the deal is with that, but it's on the to-do list. On the bright side I got a new range and a new dishwasher! Our old dishwasher stopped working months ago and my sweet dad surprised me with a new one as an early Christmas gift!

I'm amazed at how much these new appliances make my kitchen sparkle even among all the mess. The new range hood will be here later this month, and as for the fridge well, that upgrade will have to wait a while.

Laundry is piling up and right now it's all being thrown into one big pile. I really need a good laundry sorting system in here.

There is a huge pile of mail on our kitchen table waiting for my attention. That will just have to wait a little longer too.

Most of our time has been spent in the living room.  It's the only place I can get him to sleep. Usually it's in the recliner on my lap, but he has also crashed on his pad in the floor some too.

For some reason when my kids are sick they refuse to sleep in their rooms. I'm sure I was that way too when I was little.

I started a new organizing project last week. My pantry! Here is a before shot.

The circles on the wall are the result of a stenciling project gone wrong that I did several years ago.  I found this contact paper at T.J. Maxx that I'm planning to use on the wall instead.

The first step is to clean everything out and toss out anything that is old or doesn't belong. I think this is always the worst part of any organizing project.

I can now check that portion of the project off my list! Hopefully next week I will get around to finishing it up and sharing the after photos.

Last, but certainly not least, I want to share our Christmas card photo for this year!

Oh how I love these children. They bring so much joy and happiness to my life. I am so thankful God blessed me with them.

When my house is in the state it's in now, all I have to do is take one look at them and none of that matters!

That wraps up my totally random post for today! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We are celebrating my little guy's 2nd birthday this weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing his Tractor party with you guys next week! Hope he feels better in time!

Have a BLESSED day!

New living room rug

I hope you all had a wonderfully fun Halloween! We had a lot of fun watching our little superheros collect candy and save the day!

I love this time of year! There are so many things to be excited about. My little man will be turning 2 in a couple of weeks, and I am planning a tractor themed party for him. The boy is obsessed with tractors!

I'm also looking forward to Christmas decorating! I know it's still way early, but as soon as Halloween is over I start marking the days on the calendar until after Thanksgiving when we can finally put up our tree! Most years I don't make it until then and the tree goes up about a week before Thanksgiving. I'm really going to try to hold off this year though. We will see.

Anyway, back to the purpose of this post which is to share my recent purchase, our new rug.

I was browsing Overstock.com and ran across this beauty marked down to only $99!

A great price for a rug of that size. Now I have to say it's probably not the highest quality rug, but I love the design of it and it is super soft to walk on. I switch rugs around all the time, so I'm not really into spending a fortune on them, since I tire of them quickly and am ready for a change sooner rather than later most of the time.

In the above photo you can see the texture of the rug, but the color isn't accurate. The color looks a little washed out here, it's actually darker looking in person.

It's still a little bumpy looking because I just got it the other day and plopped it right on the floor and started taking pictures. Hopefully in another week or so it will lay down flat.

Here is a view that I'm not sure if I've ever shared before on here. That doorway leads to our little dining area in our kitchen.

I brought in a few different throw pillows from other rooms in the house for the couch. I have a house full of throw pillows. I try to make sure the ones I buy are cohesive with the entire house so I can switch them from room to room for a fresh look without spending any money.

What do you think?

If you are interested in the rug, here is the link to Overstock where I purchased it.

Have a BLESSED day!
