This week we have been enjoying our lovely Spring weather that recently came our way! I've been really eager to get outside and make some progress on our landscaping.
We have worked so hard on the inside of our house for the past couple of years, leaving the outside a bit neglected.
I decided, like with any major project, this one should be tackled a little bit at a time so I'm not soooo overwhelmed. I tend to get overwhelmed easily and try to get a lot done in a little amount of time. This only results in me not enjoying the project at all, so I'm taking a new approach!
We began with one side of our house.
Let me begin by saying we are not professionals at this, and we are learning as we go! This is just what is working so far!
We dug up all the sod in the pattern that we wanted. This part took forever!! (Please excuse the dirty siding, that's another Spring project on my list)
Next, we laid down weed blocker paper to block weeds from coming through. We purchased a giant roll at Home Depot for around 10 dollars. We used plastic pegs to hold down the paper which we found in the same section at the store.
Here are my two best helpers!
Then we began adding the edging pavers (also purchased at Home Depot), tucking the weed blocking paper underneath as we went along.
Finally after all that work, we could plant a few plants. The rose bush on the end was already there. I need to do some research on how to care for one of those.
I chose Japanese holly sky pencil shrubs and golden euonymus shrubs. I think this will create a nice variation in height, color, and fullness when the plants grow. Plus they are both evergreens so they will still look nice during the winter months.
So that's our progress so far. We still need to trim the paper around the basement windows. Also, I can't decide if I want to lay mulch or rocks. Other parts of the house have white rocks down, but I love the look of mulch so I'm thinking of making the switch. I'd also love to hang something on this side of the house. Maybe a giant wreath or star? Who knows! I'll keep ya updated!
Have a BLESSED day!
