Making Progress with Landscaping

This week we have been enjoying our lovely Spring weather that recently came our way! I've been really eager to get outside and make some progress on our landscaping.

We have worked so hard on the inside of our house for the past couple of years, leaving the outside a bit neglected.

I decided, like with any major project, this one should be tackled a little bit at a time so I'm not soooo overwhelmed. I tend to get overwhelmed easily and try to get a lot done in a little amount of time. This only results in me not enjoying the project at all, so I'm taking a new approach!

We began with one side of our house.

Let me begin by saying we are not professionals at this, and we are learning as we go! This is just what is working so far!

We dug up all the sod in the pattern that we wanted. This part took forever!! (Please excuse the dirty siding, that's another Spring project on my list)

Next, we laid down weed blocker paper to block weeds from coming through. We purchased a giant roll at Home Depot for around 10 dollars. We used plastic pegs to hold down the paper which we found in the same section at the store.

Here are my two best helpers!

Then we began adding the edging pavers (also purchased at Home Depot), tucking the weed blocking paper underneath as we went along.

Finally after all that work, we could plant a few plants. The rose bush on the end was already there. I need to do some research on how to care for one of those.

I chose Japanese holly sky pencil shrubs and golden euonymus shrubs.  I think this will create a nice variation in height, color, and fullness when the plants grow. Plus they are both evergreens so they will still look nice during the winter months.

So that's our progress so far. We still need to trim the paper around the basement windows. Also, I can't decide if I want to lay mulch or rocks. Other parts of the house have white rocks down, but I love the look of mulch so I'm thinking of making the switch. I'd also love to hang something on this side of the house. Maybe a giant wreath or star? Who knows! I'll keep ya updated!

Have a BLESSED day!

Updated kitchen photos

It's been quite a while since I last posted, but that doesn't mean things have been quite around here. It's actually the opposite. We have been so busy just with life! I struggle to balance everything! I run out of hours in the day to fit everything in, and when it comes down to it, my family comes first. When there is enough time left I get to craft, complete projects, and work on this blog. I admire others who can always seem to get it all done! I just don't have it figured out yet!

Anyways, I've been trying to work on taking better photos for my blog. I've gathered tips here and there from various blogs, and purchased a new camera.

A couple of my most helpful photography tips I've learned so far:
*Take photos during the day time with as much natural light coming in as possible, no overhead lights on, and no flash.
*The larger the pictures the better! Readers like to really see a space and all the details! Larger photos allow for that.

I plan to re-take photos of the house and update my home tour page as I go. So far I have taken new pictures of our kitchen and added them to the home tour, so I thought I would share them in a post. I still have a long way to go with my photography skills, but I'm getting there. Baby steps. Baby steps.

I'll be back this week with an update on our latest Spring project. Landscaping! This warmer weather we have recently been blessed with has me in the mood to get some outdoor projects done!

Have a BLESSED day!

UPDATE: I finally took the plunge and purchased a new camera! Not the new camera I mentioned in this post, but my new dream camera!!! I'm still figuring it out, but I'm updating my Home Tour page as I go!
